So we’re pretty psyched that our own Rem Koolhaus is launching a label! Since XLR8R summed it up pretty well, we’ll leave you with their words on it:
“A resident DJ behind standout New York house and techno party TURRBOTAX®, Rem Koolhaus—who, we should say, was a designer for XLR8R once upon a time—has announced the start of a new record label, the first release of which will arrive next month from LA up-and-comer Cromie and recent contributor to XLR8R‘s Downloads feed Sage Caswell (both pictured above). Called Peach, the Brooklyn-based outpost describes itself as pushing “lush and warm releases which use deep, drum-heavy house as a jumping-off point while refusing to conform to a single tempo or style.” That much is certainly evident in the preview of “Vines” b/w “Pyrex”, the full versions of which are set to inaugurate Rem Koolhaus’ new endeavor when they’re released on June 11 along with remixes from Kyle Hall, Ghosts on Tape, and DJ Spoko.”
Peep the release above and subscribe to the Peach twitter for more/future info!
Life’s a Peach,
We had a chance to sit down with Basic Soul Unit and discuss some hot tips, here’s a lil insight:
TURRBOTAX®: What’s your hometown and tell us one interesting fact about it?
Basic Soul Unit: Toronto, Canada: about 50% of residents were born outside Canada (including myself).
TURRBOTAX®: Whats your favorite record sleeve?
Basic Soul Unit: Gotta go w a Blue Note, maybe Cannonball Adderly’s “Something Else” or Freddie Hubbard “Hub-tones”. Always loved the simplicity of the covers.
TURRBOTAX®: Most embarrassing record in your collection?
Basic Soul Unit: They were a cassette tapes. When I first got to Canada as a kid in 82 I bought Ozzy Osbourne “Bark At the Moon” and Def Leppard “Pyromania”. You know as a kid from Hong Kong, western pop and rock was so cool. Not embarrassing per say (at least for some) but probably unexpected.
Catch TURRBOTAX® resident Space Jam do her thing at Lunch Beat, a mid-day lunchtime dance party. There will be food and there will be vibes!
